WANDERER TOURS AND TRAVEL

The Best way to Experience Cape Town — built around the people travelling.

Wanderer Tours and Travel is a Cape Town–based luxury tour operator specialising exclusively in private, personalised Cape Town tours. Since 2014 we have curated bespoke day tours, Cape Winelands experiences, safaris and Garden Route journeys for couples, families, photographers and cruise passengers from around the world.

Every itinerary is yours alone — registered Western Cape guides, a fleet of luxury Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and an operations team reachable on WhatsApp 24/7.

We never group strangers together. Tell us what you love — Table Mountain at sunrise, a quiet wine estate for lunch, an extra hour with the penguins at Boulders — and we route the day around it. The result is calm, well-paced, beautifully resourced private travel.

Featured Cape Town Tours

Our Cape Town day tours are the heart of what we do — private, single-day experiences crafted around your interests and pace. From the signature Cape Point peninsula loop to the city's hidden food and history corners, each tour is led by a registered guide in a luxury Mercedes-Benz.

Cape Town Wine Tours

Cape Winelands tours with Wanderer mean private cellar access in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Constantia — three centuries of South African viticulture and chef-driven estates, all without you organising a single booking. See full wine tour options →

Safari Cape Town

The Big Five within a two-hour drive. Our Cape Town safari tours cover full-day, overnight and multi-day options at hand-picked reserves — Aquila, Inverdoorn, Gondwana, Sanbona and Addo — without the malaria zones of the north.

Cape Town Experiences & Activities

From shark cage diving and helicopter flips to paragliding off Lion's Head — every Cape Town activity operator we partner with is vetted, insured and personally known to our team.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Cape Town Tours — FAQ

What is the best Cape Town tour operator for private tours?+

Wanderer Tours and Travel is a Cape Town–based boutique operator specialising exclusively in private, personalised tours. We never group strangers together, our guides are registered with the Western Cape, and we run a fleet of luxury Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

How much does a private Cape Town tour cost?+

Private Cape Town day tours start from around R4,500 per vehicle (not per person) for up to six guests, including a registered guide, fuel and all park-style entrance facilitation. Multi-day and Garden Route tours are quoted on consultation.

How many people can a private Cape Town tour take?+

Our Mercedes V-Class seats up to 7 guests, the GL SUV up to 6, and the Sprinter up to 14. We size the vehicle to your group so there are no empty seats and no strangers.

Do I need to book Cape Town tours in advance?+

We recommend booking 2–4 weeks ahead for peak season (November–March) and major events. For shoulder and off-peak periods, 5–7 days' notice is usually enough.

What is the best time of year to visit Cape Town?+

October to April delivers warm, dry summer days and long evenings — ideal for wine tours, beaches and Cape Point. May to September brings dramatic skies, whale watching (Jun–Dec) and quieter wine estates.

Are Cape Town tours suitable for children and families?+

Yes. Private touring is the most family-friendly format because the itinerary, pacing, snack stops and music are entirely yours. We supply child seats and booster seats on request at no extra charge.

Do you offer Cape Town shore excursions for cruise passengers?+

Yes — we are experienced cruise-passenger operators. We meet you at the V&A Waterfront or Cape Town Cruise Terminal, build the itinerary around your ship's all-aboard time, and guarantee return with a buffer.

What's included in a Wanderer Cape Town tour?+

Every private tour includes a luxury vehicle with chauffeur, a registered guide, fuel, bottled water, WiFi where available and full itinerary flexibility on the day. Entrance fees, meals and activities are extra and billed at cost.

Can I customise my Cape Town tour itinerary?+

Customisation is the default, not a premium. Tell us what you love — food, photography, wildlife, history, wine, hiking — and we build the day around it.

Are your guides licensed and insured?+

All Wanderer guides are registered Western Cape tourist guides. Our vehicles carry full passenger-liability insurance and we operate under a licensed South African tour operator registration.

What languages do your Cape Town guides speak?+

English natively; French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin available on request with notice.

How do I get from Cape Town airport to my hotel?+

Our Cape Town airport transfer service runs 24/7 in the same luxury fleet — meet-and-greet inside arrivals, name board, bottled water, direct to your accommodation. Book via WhatsApp.

Is it safe to travel around Cape Town as a tourist?+

With a private guide it is very safe. Our guides know which areas are appropriate, when, and they handle all logistics — parking, route choice, photo-stop security — so you travel confidently.

How long does it take to drive to the Cape Winelands?+

Stellenbosch is 45 minutes from central Cape Town; Franschhoek about an hour. A full Cape Winelands tour typically runs 8–9 hours door to door.

Can I see the penguins at Boulders Beach on a tour?+

Yes — Boulders is included as standard on our Cape Point Tour. We time the visit around tide and crowds for the best photographs.

When can I see whales in Cape Town?+

Southern Right whales calve in False Bay and Walker Bay from June to early December, peaking September–October. Hermanus is the whale-watching capital.

What is included in the Garden Route tour?+

Multi-day Garden Route tours typically cover Hermanus, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma and Addo Elephant Park. Accommodation, transport, guiding and route planning are arranged end-to-end.

Do you offer luxury accommodation booking with tours?+

Yes — through our accommodation arm we book boutique hotels, lodges and private villas, often at preferred rates, and integrate them into your tour itinerary seamlessly.

Can I add a safari to my Cape Town trip?+

Yes — we run day, overnight and multi-day safaris to Aquila, Inverdoorn, Gondwana, Sanbona and further afield to Addo and Kruger. The Big Five within a 2-hour drive is real.

Do you provide private transfers between Cape Town attractions?+

Yes — our chauffeur service covers point-to-point transfers, restaurant pick-ups, event transport and full-day on-call use. Same luxury fleet, same registered chauffeurs.

What payment methods do you accept?+

Credit card, EFT and major international transfer methods. A small deposit secures the booking; the balance is due before tour commencement.

Is the deposit refundable if I cancel?+

Yes — within our cancellation window (typically 14+ days before tour start). Full terms are shared with every quote.

Do you cater for dietary requirements and allergies?+

Always — we communicate dietary needs to every restaurant and wine estate before arrival, and we carry alternatives for long-drive snack stops.

Can you photograph our tour?+

Our guides routinely shoot guest photos on the day at no extra cost. For professional photography we partner with Cape Town–based photographers — quoted on request.

How do I book a Cape Town tour with Wanderer?+

WhatsApp is fastest. You can also use the contact form or email — every enquiry is answered by a real Cape Town–based consultant, usually within an hour during business hours.
